Conceptual modelling is at the core of computer science and information systems research. Within the German Informatics Society (GI), a number of Special Interest Groups is dedicated to various aspects of modelling software and information systems. While each one of them favors a particular perspective, they have many research goals in common. However, exchanging ideas and results across disciplinary borders is hampered by deviating terminologies and research methods. Nevertheless, taking into account the viewpoints of neighbouring research communities can help with gaining valuable insights in your own research subject. To foster collaboration on modelling topics across various fields of computer science and information systems, Klaus Pohl, Andy Schürr und Gottfried Vossen started a workshop series in 1998. It proved to become the nucleus of a vivid research community. In order to strengthen this community and to make it more visible, it was turned into a more official association within the GI in early 2004 - called "Querschnittsfachausschuss" (Joint Interest Groups).

The Joint Interest Groups on Modelling are aimed at providing an inspiring environment for working jointly on the the exciting challenges of conceptual modelling. The portal gives an overview of our activities and provides numerous resources on conceptual modelling research. Its content is being updated by JIG members.
